RELEASE: A FIVE-SCENE STORY
I created a caterpillar-helicopter creature for a 4-person collaborative project, in response to a cyanotype-printed cityscape on a shirt. He later evolved into this 5-scene three-dimensional comic. Here, our protagonist looks on sadly, then returns to munching on city buildings. He is captured, and then released into an idyllic caterpillar-helicopter monster refuge.
The material and format were chosen because they evoke mini wooden stage sets, and highlight the fact that these are constructed scenes. And because the scenes were movable, we discovered that when reversed, the scenes tell a different story (helicopters arrive at the creatures' idyllic refuge, then capture and release one of them in a city). I will be building another version with the two stories constructed back-to-back.
