Motorola email app redesign
work: visual & interaction design
The old Motorola Email app needed more efficient use of space and better access to frequently used actions. A UX and visual overhaul resulted in clearer navigation, a strong visual hierarchy, and easier access to often-used functions.
Swipe gestures facilitated what we called "triaging" behavior: when people use email on the go, they want to take care of it immediately, or mark it for later. Users could assign left-to-right and right-to-left swipes to actions of their choosing (delete, mark read/unread, move, flag). And an undo feature provided a grace period for one-touch reversals of decisions.
Variants of these UX patterns have since become standard in mobile email apps (e.g. Mailbox).
