Motorola lock & answer-call screens
(for Android 4.0)
work: visual & interaction design
This lock screen addressed several requirements: provide direct access to frequently used apps, support Motorola-specific functions such as on-screen ringer control, conserve demand on the processor, and still be a no-brainer for first-time smartphone users. The unlock method also applied to the incoming call screen (which always needs to be a no-brainer).
Worked closely with engineering to design low-power animations and transitions, and to spec out the many lock screen state variants (security options, timeout behaviors, music player presence, landscape & layouts, etc.) and worked iteratively with user research to test and refine prototypes.
